It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out why the tagline read "they're the tok of the town". I was thinking "of course it's a pun on 'talk', but why 'tok'? The sound a chicken makes? No, that's 'bok'."
I was just considering watching this, in a "Mormonism freaks me out but this might be an entertaining trainwreck, and I DO like RHoSLC" kind of way, but then I looked at a promo video for the show and it was just 90% them doing the cringiest of tiktok dances. Ew, no thanks.
I have only watched the first two episodes but so far the show is focusing on the ~drama within the group. The cringey TikTok dances are only shown as silent clips during transitions between some scenes (watching them without music makes them even worse but in a funny way).
I was watching the promo without sound so that definitely didn't help, haha.
Do you think you'll keep watching? And would you recommend it to someone who can really only stomach Mormonism if it's on the level of Bravo's RHoSLC? I.e. mostly campy and generally through a critical lens.
It’s only 8 episodes so I will probably finish the season. So far it is like a typical reality show aka drama within a friend group so I’d say it’s comparable to a typical Real Housewives show with a younger cast. In the first episode alone, there was a recap of the swinger scandal, an unplanned pregnancy, an arrest, a member of the friend group who moved out of state (and seemed to have ghosted everyone when she left) returning unexpectedly, and a lot of shit talking

I once knew a Mormon kid in beauty school…their was no local barber school near us, so the next best thing for him was beauty school 🤷
The lil dude was super horny and was hitting up on girls left & right.
So I can totally see why this group of MomTalks made up a Swingers Club. That religion is so sexually oppressive that a lot of kinks come out of the woodwork ( so to speak lol)
Dating and kissing/making out/hooking up is a normal part of growing up so I can see why the combination of being told that those things are bad/evil/sinful and getting married very young (often to their first boyfriend who is also inexperienced) resulted in these 20 something year old married couples acting out by basically having the equivalent of middle school parties with spin the bottle.
To be honest, your 20s are when you should be dating and making out with people at parties. It makes me sad to see a 22 year old girl say that she’s already been married, had two kids, and gotten divorced but still has never had an orgasm.
When one of the girls chided her mom for not preparing her for her wedding night, I could not believe that the mom’s excuse was “I was busy with a toddler.”
The Mormon kid I went to beauty school with, moved to NYC (which I find hilarious cuz the East Coast views Mormonism how the rest of the world judges Tom Cruise and Scientology) and just living the life of debauchery, mild mayhem and sexual freedom lol. His stories on Instagram cracks me up cuz he is discovering stuff alot of 20 something’s already figured out by the time they hit college.
I think that’s why so many of us view them as such weird sexually oppressive people 🤔 they make Catholics look tame in comparison.
