I can't believe after two decades of being pre-production with countless actors names being dropped, they settled on the two worst possible choices for leads

What's wrong with Cynthia as lead?

She's just...fine. There are so many interesting and compelling singer-actors who have played Elphaba over the years and she's just kind of there as an actor. I also think they should have cast both characters younger

The age is my issue. It is so hard for me to view Cynthia as a young student. Ariana at least presents younger because she’s so tiny and talks like a baby. But both characters should be played by actresses in their 20s. Yes, Cheno and Idina were in their 30s, but stage is different than film.

I just still can't get over this being two films... the second half of the stage show is so much weaker than the first, and now it's twice the length?

I wish we got a book adaptation instead because it's so much more thematically complex than the Broadway show. The whole thing with "animals" vs "Animals" alone... There's also way more content to mine from for the school years in the books.

If I were interested in this I would pass purely on the fact that they divided this into two parts. The original play is 2:45; there was no decision for this other than greed.

i know y'all hate cynthia but from a casting standpoint, i can't even imagine thinking someone with that acting talent and those pipes could possibly be wrong for elphaba lol i'm willing to see what ariana has to offer although i'm not hopeful. jonathan is a great pick for fyiero, so is jeff for the wizard and i cannot even begin to express how inspired michelle's casting is. her morrible is probably what i'm most excited about <3

all in all, i'm going to give this a real shot, the only thing that truly bothers me is how cartoonish the CGI is. i get that it's all colors and magic~ but i really hate that type of super OTT CGI in non-animated films.

My only issue with Cynthia's casting from a talent pov is that she looks too old. But that's just petty, she's a green witch, maybe they age like milk.

Ariana is the problem imo.
That and the fact that it's a two-part movie and they must know that it's a terrible idea since they won't mention it in their promos.

I sort of handwave Cynthia's age by the fact that the only reason Elphaba is allowed to go to school is to look after Nessarose, so technically there can be a big age gap between them tbh
