While I'm not condoning what he did by any stretch it's fucked he was even asked about this during the promotion of a unrelated project. That reporter wanted a "gotcha" moment and was denied, lol.

You know just as well as I do if he answered that would be the focus of the press, which would be an extreme unfairness to the cast and crew of the movie he's currently promoting. Your mileage obviously varies (which is fine), but personally I'm not a fan of interviewers/press bringing up completely unrelated people/projects/stuff just to shit stir.

It's not even just a story about a certain project though, it's about the industry as a whole. Below-the-line production people are suffering due to lack of work, and he's directly responsible for possibly hundreds of people being out of a job. He had weeks to come up with a response to a question that he 1000000000% knew would be asked, and the best he could muster is "Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man."

If a woman or POC had bailed at the last minute with no explanation they'd be, in the immortal words of Mommie Dearest, box office poison and would be banished from appearing in anything other than student films until the powers that be determined that they'd suffered enough. This asshole has, at least, 2 projects in preproduction with plenty more coming down the pike if Joker 2 does decent box office.

The press should not be taking his non answers as answers. Some pushback from anywhere would be nice to see.

I don’t really think him giving an answer as to why he dropped out would be taking anything away from the other creatives there but ok sure. We are definitely not getting the full story here it seems like it’s really messy behind the scenes.

I think that's the point he was trying to make. There are more sides to the story; to tell only his would be a disservice. Considering the Blake Lively mess I don't blame him for shutting that shit down.
