Chappell Roan Reschedules Berlin, Cancels Paris and Amsterdam Tour Dates.

Aug 29, 2024 10:39

Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows. I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September. I am so sorry & very disappointed :( I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken 💔 thank you for understanding. pic.twitter.com/nlEL2YhB2X

Cancelling tour dates that were already sold to do something else is kinda tacky, imo. If it's a health thing or emergency then totally understandable, but if it's to do another bigger/better thing that feels kinda...meh

Shhhhh it's a sin to say bad things about her on ontd. Fans should be understanding and totally cheer her on at the VMAs!

i think we can both understand that fandom is toxic and also think this is a disappointing move

if she's cancelling because of personal wellbeing (there's been an uptick in her posting about her boundaries) I totally get that. if it's a cancellation for the VMAs performance that's kinda lame tbh, it's not even culturally relevant and she doesn't need that platform to grow, she's doing well on her current path and it's sheisty to fans that have inevitably traveled for this.

Yeah, in the 90s the VMAs were a big deal and a performance could generate tons of interest. But barely anyone watches them anymore.

The VMAs have a Big Brother feel to them. Outdated and under anticipated. They let all the fun shit go and lost their main audience, which was people who liked music and goofy segments.

I think it’s awful to cancel so last minute even if it was for personal reasons. Two days before a show when people travel to see is messed up. It’s the same thing as when Adele cancelled. Rescheduling in advance with sufficient time to make other plans is ok.

Unless it's for personal reasons, I find it really awful to cancel, especially if it's for an VMA performance lol ... Who gives a shit about that ... She needs a better team, this is nagl!

Artists need to realize that people book planes, hotels, take time off work, come from other countries etc. just to see them live! I was considering going to her Berlin show but now I'm glad I didn't because I'd lose out on at least 200 €.

I just got back from a trip to Ireland that was planned around seeing Mannequin Pussy twice. They canceled just that leg of the tour about a month before the date because they were exhausted, but as far as I can tell from their social media they're still playing constantly. They're going to fucking Australia in a few months now and the lizard part of my brain is seething that they can go halfway around the world but not a direct flight across the smallest part of the Atlantic??

Two days before the show?! I hope it wasnt for the VMAs because that would make me lose some respect

It feels like she's following her (entirely warranted and appropriate) request that fans respect her with a decision that directly disrespects her fans. Respect for her fans doesn't have to include allowing them to cross her boundaries (nor should it in my honest opinion), but it should at least extend to honouring your commitments.

I hope she's okay and this isn't covering for something more serious, but if it really is for the VMAs... the Berlin show is in three days. Some of her fans on Reddit only found out when they landed in Germany on a trip they made specifically for the concert. The reschedule date also moves the show from a Saturday to a Tuesday, which will make it harder for people to attend even if they already live in the area.

fans aren't owed photographs in public, they aren't owed the artist listening to the most personal gut wrenching reasons why that art speaks to the listener buuut they are absolutely owed what they pay for, when tickets are incredibly expensive and people have to take time off work.

A lot of them also make non refundable travel plans like transportation and hotel rooms.
