I think Democrats are failing to address the needs of poor and working-class people in the country, but the idea that centering celebrities is off-putting to rural voters is laughable. Donald Trump is the Republican candidate, he had zero political experience when he first ran for office, but earned the nomination the first time because of his celebrity. Clearly celebrity isn't that much of a problem!

i think a large issue is that the republicans have spent DECADES if not generations convincing the poor/uneducated/working class etc. that republicans are in it for them and evil democrats ruin everything and want to steal their children, etc. -- even though so many initiatives that benefit these people every day were democratic-born. so it isn't so much about messaging it is about deprogramming these people which is incredibly difficult to deprogram a person once they have baked in their beliefs.

We need to just hammer his out of control spending and the fact that only the richest of the rich got tax cuts, but again even those basic arguments may be too high level for a lot of the undereducated mass that makes up a large portion of MAGA.

it doesn't help that the GOP caters to the religious who are so far indoctrinated that its hard to wake them up.

ia with him and was sort of thinking it myself tbh. it was really off-putting that they invited some of the people they did, and tbh they were easily the worst moments of the DNC lol. the downfall of both Clinton and Warren is that they turned their campaigns into spectacles of "girl power!" that were just tone deaf, abusing black womanist language, and full of straight up classist and/or racist celebs. it would be nice if we could finally take this shit seriously again and stop.

Eh both parties trot out their celebrities during campaign season. It just so happens that the Republican celebrities are all lame, lol.

That said, I don't think that celebrity endorsements really move the needle all that much. So like idk Zach, since you're from NC which is shaping up to be a swing state this election, why don't you spend your time calling your friends and family back in NC and finding out who they're voting for and if they're registered to vote?

I agree. The RNC had a bunch of "celeb" appearances too but the difference is that many of them were not current celebrities. I think the closest they got to a current pop culture celebrity was that girl from the Chrisley reality show.

it really sucks that trump could spend an afternoon chucking newborn puppies off an interstate bridge and not lose a substantial number of voters but if someone working on kamala's campaign posts a bad meme it'll cost her the election. people really just don't give a shit!!

I think there are a lot of problems with the Democratic Party, but it is frustrating that they're seldom criticized for those problems and often held to a standard that clearly doesn't matter at all for Republicans. Nobody gives a damn that losers like Hulk Hogan, Amber Rose, and Savannah Chrisley were at the RNC, but suddenly celebrity is a problem at the DNC?

omg RIGHT. this dumbass working at WaPo (ofc) tweeting about there *could be!* something REALLY BAD! out there about Walz that hasn’t been uncovered yet! maybe! potentially!

like everything that’s come out of Donald’s and VD’s mouths shouldn’t be more than enough to end their campaign. it’s just insane how different the opposing standards candidates are held to are (there are none on the MAGA side)

I see what he means but also celebrities have the best platforms to speak up in support, and even help campaign.

Also, rural voters voted Trump and Reagan in. Not to mention they get excited when washed up D-listers show Trump any support.

Exactly, both Trump and Reagan were """""""celebrities"""""""
