He seemed really surprised/dismissive that people were critical of things like Michelle dating her therapist, Beard marrying his toxic girlfriend, the Roy/Keeley/Jamie triangle. Maybe some other things. And since these were things I didn't like, I didn't like his answers haha.

lmaoo, that's valid. I stopped watching after s2 because I could sense the downward trajectory with Roy/Keeley and wanted to get out before I got too invested. I did remember seeing spoilers about Roy/Keeley/Jamie and not being a fan of what the show did.

Dexter was so exciting and different at the start and by the end I didn’t even want to watch the finale.

I'm rewatching it now (I'm on season 2) and my interest is already slipping and idek why.

Because Doakes is gone. Sure, they had people suspicious about Dexter within the force across the years, but no one with Doakes' style. He's also the true human reaction to what Dexter is. He doesn't love Dexter, rely on him, or have a weird fascination with him, so the reality of what Dexter does really hits Doakes on a level beyond what happens with the others who know. I think it's very close to Dexter's father's reaction when he actually sees it, and just likes Doakes, his father died because of what Dexter is.

I stopped watching Dexter when Doakes died, and even though everyone says season 4 is the best, I have zero regrets.
