While that’s a great cast (well…specifically Danielle Deadwyler), the last couple of August Wilson film adaptations have all felt a little too stagey to me, and didn’t make a great transition from play to film. I hope this one can be a bit more cinematic.

love the August Wilson plays, but i do think pro-shots are more effective unless we have a strong, strong director who can adapt his work to film. because essentially, they all take place in ONE setting, so it's hard to like jump from location to location like other films and still keep a dynamic quality. i'm glad denzel and family are determine to immortalize his pittsburgh cycle on film. barry jenkins tweeted that this is a pretty good one, so i'm hoping for the best.
