i met him when i was in my early 20s at an event i was working and he was performing at and he invited me to party. i was a bit starstruck but for some reason didn't go. obviously, i don't know if anything would have happened if i did go but i'm really glad i didn't.

Raping minors as far back as 2005. He was acquitted of raping a minor during this same court case as he was convicted.

For Americans, you have to understand how pretty massive Hedley was in Canada. A very big Canadian famous band. Jacob was 3rd runner up in the first season of Canadian Idol (same season as Carly Rae Jepsen!). I was a a fan of their music growing up too.

However, these allegations were not a shock. I remember when I was in high school, so many girls in my hometown around my age mentioned being invited to his parties. I knew some girls who made out or slept with him… as a teenager.

Their music was e v e r y w h e r e. Not only did they get a boost from CanCon requirements (for non-Canadians, these requirements ensure Canadian media outlets play a minimum amount of Canadian content, which is a big reason why groups like these are still able to gain popularity in Canada despite the rise of streaming and our Anglo media being saturated with American content otherwise) but they were genuinely popular with the right age groups and markets. It felt like I couldn't go a day without hearing their music on the radio.

I am so sorry to hear about those girls in your hometown. Hopefully this case (and the now-rejected appeal) gave them some closure about what happened to them as well.

Not the same season as Carly Rae because she also came in third. Jacob was season 2 and Carly was season 5.
