oh they definitely heard the backlash to the lack of emotion from the cgi animals

they actually emote in this film

Well...they tried to fix "these animals are not expressive, this is horrible" complaints re: the last movie but I am not sure they did a great job, some of this is still way too uncanny valley for me. I don't understand why they didn't just make this a regular animated 3D movie, the hyper realistic style did not work for this (and made all the merchandise ugly as hell which is why you can get all of it super cheat 2nd hand). I do find it kinda funny that the name "Taka" has been used in non-canon books for Scar's actual name for like 30 years but they had multiple chances to make it canon before this and didn't and now they've apparently decided to use it for this movie.

Yeah like they heard the criticisms - nice, good - but it still just doesn't work and would be better as 2D.

I would love it so much if they made this 2D. I watched Lion King a million times, I've watched Lion King 2, Lion King 1.5, I even watched most of that Lion Guard TV sequel (that was 2D animated as well! See they CAN do it! So was the Tangled TV show!), all of those things were 2D and it was great. But if they won't do 2D, they should have at least done their usual 3D stylized stuff, the style they used for this is just weird and offputting and I honestly hate it.

The Lion Guard was quite fun, I still like the music!

Little Scar's? accent took me tf OUT. Why is he posh and English?!

I hate how soulless the hyper realistic animation style looks.

I bet his parents won’t sound like that at all and it’ll be especially confusing lmao.

Okay so what i'm getting here is Scar has every right to be upset because some rando came in and swiped his position as heir...

I'm glad that they did take criticism about the animals not having any emotion to heart, but it still looks Bad.

Right! They're making this movie about Mufasa, but it's just showing why he should have never been king to begin with. He's not even family technically. Unless there's some plot twist to explain why Mufasa really deserved the crown, Scar really had good reason to be in his feelings about not being king.

Why would anyone want to watch a movie with two cute lions bonding and becoming brothers when they know one would eventually brutally murder the other? And this is Disney?

I get that, but what I liked about older Disney villains is that their villains did not need deep reasons to be assholes. Scar was a jealous younger brother who wanted to be king but got further in line after Simba. Melificient was pissed off she was not invited to the party. Cruella was a sadist who wanted puppy fur for her coat. Why must they overcomplicate things!

oh, i enjoy that a lot, too. i don't necessarily want to like an evil character, but i do wonder what their lives were like. i love an irredeemable character. like - no matter what scar went through, it's not gonna excuse him killing mufasa.

i used to watch 'once upon a time' and haaaaaated how they decided every villain needed to actually be loved and they were all good at their core. pissed me off
