a white gay actor that has the name recognition that joaquin phoenix has? hard pressed to just find a white actor/hollywood star big enough for them to secure/replace the financing that was directly tied to phoenix's involvement who would be currently available to start shooting asap. that's just not how films are made.

financing depending on his casting. some people asking why haynes' can't just recast are being wildly optimistic that someone of phoenix's status would even be available this last minute and based on other reports it looks likes haynes' tried his best to scramble but it didn't work out. haynes' is a director that's well-liked in the film community and has a-list actors that loves working with him but he NEEDS names in front of the camera to get his projects made and financed. this is so shitty to do to him and that entire cast and crew. especially if it's reportedly about having "cold feet" like variety reports.
