I'm sure it makes some people feel smarter about not reading 'regular' romances.

Wait, are her books not regular romances? I thought they were just your bog standard chick lit? What’s different about them?

I could not get through this book, I gave up by page 20. By then I already knew what was going to happen anyway, lol.

I hated this book. Partially because I went into it expecting something completely different (I blame the US title vs the UK one), but also just ..these two characters I just found annoying. I'm all for friends to lovers but my god.

It's strange the author blew up because her books are really hit or miss for me. and I read a lot of shitty chic lit. Maybe she is popular because it seems like there is no real general consensus on her books.

You're right about no general consensus-- what's interesting to me about Emily Henry fans is that everyone has a different favorite book. I think she's popular because she scratches a lot of different trope itches for people and she's great at banter. I dislike most of her tertiary characters (especially Happy Place and Book Lovers) and it makes me wonder if she has a lot of toxic friendships which makes her keep writing about them.

I don't get the hate, tbh. She's a pulitizer prize winner compared to all of the booktok recommended garbage I've read

This is my least favorite EH book. Both the lead characters are annoying and their vacations are boring. I see people saying it's their favorite EH book and I'm just scratching my head.

Funny Story and Book People are much better to me, in every way. I also didn't like Beach Read. She's very hit or miss.

I stopped it around 20% and just deleted it from my kindle. The characters, the writing, the narrative... my god, just garbage.

He's a little weird, I like him. Most of these other GenZ white boys are hard to keep straight.

Love Emily for this! Don't know much about Tom besides his blink and miss it Gilded Age role. This is my fave Emily Henry so they'd better get the chemistry right! I sub to Emhen's newsletter and she said they are swapping out Palm Springs for Barcelona and I think that's a gorgeous upgrade

from the newsletter:

The big one I wanted to personally tell you about so it doesn’t come as a surprise: Palm Springs. Turns out Palm Springs is actually a very difficult place to film! Who knew! But we knew we wanted a place that could feel BIG and BEAUTIFUL and romantic and also hellishly hot if your AC were to break, for example. So all that to say, get ready for a very sexy, sultry summer in Barcelona.

I'm sure the people of Barcelona will def appreciate that.

Also it's hard to film in Palm Springs because Netflix is cheap.
