For context: Scott's Tots is an infamous episode from The Office (US version) where Michael Scott has to inform a classroom of young Black students that he can't afford to pay for their tuition because he's still a broke bwah.

College should not cost as much as it does and I find it fucking weird that just when college enrollment started to drop and people started questioning ROI, you started seeing employers requiring BA/BS and Masters degrees in minimum requirements again. No specific flavor! Just the piece of paper.

I really feel bad for these kids especially if they were required to enroll at $$$ tiny lib arts schools. Like fuck, let them do a state school if they want.

Pisses me off especially in the U.K. In England it used to be free. Then (around the time I went) it was around £1,100 a year. Then it was £3,000 something and now it’s like £9,000 or £10,000 per year.

And yet in Scotland it’s still free. And they get free prescriptions.

Our government has royally fucked it.

It absolutely galls me that for an entry level position at fucking sherwin williams they require you to have a bachelors degree.

Oh no. This is fucking awful.

We have a program at my company for underprivileged youth (nothing like this, just working with local BBBS in creating a safe space for kids) and I was put in charge of one of the courses.

I knew it was a risky move, but I labeled one of the checks we used for presentation as a $1m donation to Scott’s Tots… and the kids actually got it! They got a good laugh out of it. It was an ice breaker of sorts and made it easier for to relax around us.

Anyway, I wish I had the funds to actually help kids. :(

Even if what this guy says is true (that he ~only has $200 million now, boo hoo), rich people know other rich people. He should be hitting up everyone he knows to donate a measly $10k, which will fund four of those scholarships. These are people who spend 10x that amount for tickets to gala events and other fundraisers so it's barely a drop in the bucket to them. I don't know how many kids were supposed to receive $2500 for this school year but surely he could have done something besides throw his hands in the air and say, "Sorry, no money for you!"

Absolutely fucking awful. As for that episode itself, I skip it whenever I do a re-watch because it gives me so much second hand anxiety and I can’t handle the broken heartedness of the kids.

I hate that this has happened for real. 😭
