The only podcast I still really listen to is Pod Save. World.

It’s cool that the employees get unlimited vacation and great healthcare, but I wonder if that has ever been used to justify employees working longer hours.

Great healthcare is def a perk but unlimited vacation is such a misnomer and usually offered at places which have extremely high stress, high performer work culture ( ... )

absolutely this. my direct manager will say we all need to take out time off but taking even a day off is so stressful for days beforehand and sometimes days after PLUS it's a hardship on our teammates because we have to cover for each other. even a coworker missing on day the other week because of an unexpected death slowed me down so much. i'm taking a week off in early november and my direct teammate is taking one off in late november and i just know that entire month will fucking suck because of it... most of the time i stick to just taking one three day weekend a month rather than long stretches off but i'm taking the week of the election off because i did it in 2020 and it was a great decision.

also spot on about the unused vacation days payout. we're had 3 RIFs (maybe 4...) in the last year and that was surely a chunk they wouldn't have been able to afford. hell, they stopped matching on retirement funds for this year too.

are you me? because i took a couple days off after Election Day also! Doing it again this year!

One of my company's best perks is that they give us a recharge day 1x a quarter. So how that shakes out is that we have at least 1 3-day weekend every calendar month. On occasion, I will also take an additional extra day off for almost a week of mental health self care or just to get stuff done. We really need to consider a 4 day workweek in the US but I don't think I will see that in my work lifetime (I hope to only have about 10=12 years left before retirement).

it's a hardship on our teammates because we have to cover for each other.OMG--so July was crazy because everyone was taking time off and my poor manager was losing her mind trying to cover it all. This year my PTO (I am product) and my tech partner's overlapped and so it was close to a month before we were both ( ... )

I hate the entire structure around my job so yeah that would include my bosses but it's not targeted just at them.

They’re a bunch of ageing frat boys - it’s not surprising they don’t really know their arses from their elbows.

I'm a social worker and work(ed) for non-profits. Of course, our bosses hate us. Trying to make the sun come out of my ass for $0.18 while not wanting to quite and hope for the best in the wilderness is hard work.

I listen to Keep It and Hysteria, but I stopped listening to Pod Save bc it became too white male centered. None of this surprises me.
