A few bulletpoints:
- Dr. Puke, "alleged" rapist, produced and co-wrote it.
- The lyrics are bad. Period. That's it.
- It's very male gazey. So was "California Gurls," but that was a better song,

it's so mindless and stupid-if the only point was "look how toned and shiny I am" it would be fine, but why work with Dr Puke to achieve that?

idk it's almost as if she thinks she's the victim of people forgetting who she is because her quality in music/her level of relevancy has decreased so much, that she went off and found another person who thinks they're a victim of public perception.
Also probably because she clearly is just trying to push buttons thinking that any form of attention is good attention, and by doing this, she clearly is getting a lot of attention, even if it's extremely bad attention. It's getting her name back in the news. But just being in the news doesn't equal sales.

The last thing I liked - liked, not loved - from her was Bon Appetit, but even that seemed blatantly like some attempt at forcing a ~new era~ just like this is (the Bon Appetit video was basically all about some pretend reinvention of her image with the haircut and pseudo-makeover). It's not organic - and I'm not saying pop music is organic, far from it, but it just screams at some attempt by committee to try and force her into what she THINKS the public wants, but she's generally about 6 months at the minimum to whatever is considered fresh. In this song, she's about 6 years, if not more, behind the times.

Perry believes being mid will keep interest. But the age of TikTok audiences want more danceable hits. Back to not reading the audience.

she spent a month promoting this to her 300,000,000+ IG and twitter followers and then when she dropped, less than 1% of those followers on a global scale tuned in for a single stream.
we now know she along with her team thought this was going to be a big hit because she went running back to dr. luke. i just don't understand how you get everything THIS wrong. the song isn't even charting on the spotify global charts after day ONE. oh, my god.
