I'm still reading the article but apparently it's because his lawyers claim the prosecutors buried evidence:

“The late discovery of this evidence during trial has impeded the effective use of evidence in such a way that it has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings,” said Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, explaining, in part, her decision to dismiss the case with prejudice."

Someone needs to explain to me how this random ammo would be a help to the defense. The ammo wasn't on trial, the man who pulled the trigger was.

So how was this "evidence" supposed to be used by the defense to help Baldwin. Everyone agreed there was live ammo in the gun. He had the gun in his hand when the cinematographer was killed.

So how does this random ammo help defend him from pulling the trigger? It seems irrelevant to me, so why did it need to be included?

we don't know and we'll never know bc the principle of the thing is that they were hiding evidence deliberately.

I'm not sure either but I guess if someone hands something that could be considered evidence relating to the incident it's all gotta be considered for a fair trial.

Prosecution knew about this and decided to not count it with other evidence, whereas the defense was not given that knowledge until much later.

Yeah apparently this was evidence that wasn't acknowledged:

"Baldwin's lawyers claim a man named Troy Teske, a friend of Thell Reed, the father of convicted Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed - who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for loading a live round into Baldwin's gun - turned over ammunition to authorities that he thought was connected to the case. We’re talking about a prosecution that didn’t preserve those bullets, that didn’t collect them at all. That didn’t turn them over,” he said ( ... )
