I live in a constituancy which they recently redrew, so I went from living in a safe labour seat, to a very mixed 50/50 tory/labour seat. I wanted to vote green, but then I went to our local hustings where the candidates all speak, and the green candidate was like a left-wing Biden - fucking ancient and practically incoherant. so I'm resentfully voting labour tactically, thinking i might have to volunteer for the greens locally to help make them less shit.

Our constituency got redrawn as well but it's always been a tory stronghold so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for better results this time. I can only vote in the local elections as I'm not a citizen but my husband voted Labour as a tactical move because no other party sadly have any chances here.

I hope tory lost in your area! i'm surprised you mention you can't vote though because you're a citizen - because I'm not a citizen and I'm allowed to vote?

The actually won by 300 seats 😭 my hopes weren't too high though as with the redraw we lost a big chunk of the progressive side and instead got an area in the south that is quite conservative. Are you from the commonwealth by any chance? As they are the only ones I know that can vote in the general election without citizenship.

I shall be cheering the hopeful demise of the Tories.

I will also be hoping beyond hope that this version of the Labour Party really isn't as fucking awful as they've made themselves out to be over recent weeks.

Idk how many time zones the UK has (1?) But I wish Canada would do the same thing re no reporting results until the Pacific time zone folks have voted and their polls have closed.

I think Canada has 6.

I mean Ontario and Quebec decide all our fed elections but it's demoralizing when you're still in line and the election is decided and you know it.

It used to be that way but the internet has made the practice useless.

Makes sense. I just don't get how the internet gets the results - the results shouldn't be out until 8:01pm Pacific.

Not arguing! I just don't understand! 🙃

The polls already closed hours earlier in the east. It used to be that the election result broadcast would start only when your local polls closed. But with the internet anyone can look up the results from Ontario Un bc.
