Although the actress in the Civil Rights storyline was not named, I am guessing it was Emmy Raver-Lampman. It's been ages since I watched S2 so I don't remember all of the other characters involved in that plot, but I don't think one of the actresses playing one of the minor characters would have been talking about the situation with two other writers in the bathroom at a season kick off event. It would be bad enough to have a white man dismiss your concerns about a storyline like that, but then to have to keep working with him for two more seasons? I hope she had emotional support from her castmates.
i might be reading it wrong but because the actress was the only one in the story whose gender was specified, it read to me like she was the one not asked back after that season.
I wonder how she felt about her season 3 storyline. I wouldn't be surprised if Allison SA Luther was Blackman's idea. It wouldn't be the first time a showrunner takes out their issues with an actress through the character they portray (see: Joss Whedon).
I really do get the feeling Gerard Way isn't particularly happy with the direction it took. He seemed to have good things to say about the first season and seemed actively involved in the process, then kind of slipped out of the picture very quietly.
I can imagine because the trashiness of that netflix style was covered up by the simplicity of the first season, it was still pretty good and novel. then it became fanfic but trashy netflix fanfic and its exhausting. glad to know im not actively hating on gerard when I hate on this show cause I love the original vision.
I am sad that its the end of a show with trans rep but good riddance.
The final season finished filming over a year ago (right around the time that the WGA strike began) so thankfully the cast (and hopefully most of the crew) have been free for a while, but S4 drops in August which means they will be doing press. I wonder if he will leave it to the cast so he can lay low and avoid being questioned about the accusations. I actually have no idea if he usually does a lot of interviews before each season though.
I never liked this show, it felt like a cheap ripoff of x-men and always gave me sketch vibes, now I feel justified in my hatred! Fuck this man and his vile behaviour, I hope he chokes
