I mean people really think they can just bust up in the club when it's roughly the same odds (fact check me) on getting pregnant with traditional hormonal birth control. If people understand that any form of birth control isn't fool-proof then they wouldn't think that IUD is the holy grail of contraception.

Pretty sure that the IUD is (supposedly) more effective than the pill (99%+ vs 93%ish), so that’s why people just believe in it so much.

I think the reason for why IUD is more effective is because the pill has more possibility for use impacting effectiveness. Like it's most effective taken the same time each day and not everyone is going to be diligent about that so the effectiveness of the pill is less than the IUD when you look at it's actual us.

And like with the IUD once its in, you're not having to remember to do anything with it every day to ensure it is most effective. lol

I'm saving for a tubal ligation. Until then I only have sex with condoms and on my non-fertile days . I don't want any kids, at all. Hormonal birth control is a no go and the IUD sounds way too painful and not save enough.

that's me before my tubal + wouldn't let the guy cum inside (with a condom) bc I was too paranoid it'd break lol hope you get your procedure soon enough, I got mine 2 years ago and it was life-changing <3

getting pregnant is my biggest fear. even at 41..I would think to myself- omg I'm gonna be a teen mom..WHAT AM I GONNA DO?!?! Pregnancy, STD's, and public speaking were always my worst fears. 😭

...I think being the friend that everyone called to take them to planned parenthood may have given me some PTSD.

I've had a tubal ligation and it's a great relief once it's done. Just a heads up though, although the odds are low, you can still get pregnant with one. With the way the country is going, my husband is getting a vasectomy.

I wish you all the fast healing once you get the surgery done!

This sounds like an awful experience. :( It’s crazy to me that some people are so fertile that this can happen, yet my partner and I have been trying for months and… nothing. Sigh.

Aww I hope that you guys will get good news soon. A couple of my friends had a time getting pregnant. One of them sorta gave up and was like fuck it and got pregnant afterward. She's now pregnant with a 2nd one. So don't lose hope.

Sounds like a pretty rough experience.

Also, here's my little PSA & gentle reminder since stories about unwanted pregnancies on BC tend to freak out people with uteruses- birth control where a penis ejaculates inside your vagina is not safe, plain and simple. You might be wearing the vest but the bullets are still leaving the gun so COMBINE METHODS, always <3

And PSA2: if you're fucking people with penises, especially cis men, please wear a condom. STIs don't care about your hormonal BC, my darlings.

I'm on year 12 with my IUD (not the same one, I had it replaced when the first expired) with no pregnancy scares thankfully. I'll keep getting them as needed until I go through menopause I reckon. I should've just gotten my tubes tied back when I had my csection, ugh.

I'm debating whether to get mine replaced next year. I'm 48 and my husband is snipped, so I likely don't need it for BC. But man do I love not having a period.

That's the main reason I keep mine! When it came time to replace mine a couple years back my husband asked if he should just get snipped and I'm like "You can if you want, but I'm keeping the IUD, I don't want my period to come back" lol. The replacement wasn't too bad honestly, uncomfortable of course, but not any worse than regular insertion.

wait..do you not get periods anymore with an IUD?? I've heard of that. but have always bled for days, and even with an IUD I still bleed around 13 days every month.
