I'm on year 12 with my IUD (not the same one, I had it replaced when the first expired) with no pregnancy scares thankfully. I'll keep getting them as needed until I go through menopause I reckon. I should've just gotten my tubes tied back when I had my csection, ugh.

I'm debating whether to get mine replaced next year. I'm 48 and my husband is snipped, so I likely don't need it for BC. But man do I love not having a period.

That's the main reason I keep mine! When it came time to replace mine a couple years back my husband asked if he should just get snipped and I'm like "You can if you want, but I'm keeping the IUD, I don't want my period to come back" lol. The replacement wasn't too bad honestly, uncomfortable of course, but not any worse than regular insertion.

wait..do you not get periods anymore with an IUD?? I've heard of that. but have always bled for days, and even with an IUD I still bleed around 13 days every month.

Nope, my period stopped when I got my first IUD. I had initial bleeding when I got the first one that lasted several weeks but since then it's pretty much nonexistent. Since losing a bunch of weight though, I do occasionally get some bloody discharge for 2 or 3 days every month, but it's not like active bleeding like a period or anything, I'll just wipe after using the bathroom and there is old blood (i think?? it's more like a brown color, not red), but it doesn't require using pads or tampons or anything. sorry if that's tmi lol.

nah you're good! i used to bleed a lot and for most of the month. i had to always wear a damn sweater around my waist in case i bled through. Like, i'm still bleeding around 13 days, but at least it's WAY lighter. And it also took away pain. I had to miss school a lot because of that.

I'm not the user you asked, but just chiming in - I'm on my second Mirena and I haven't had a period in 9 years! I used to have awful periods (not super long, but heavy, and so painful I would pass out sometimes) and my IUD stopped all of that immediately. I very occasionally get mild discomfort/bloat still, but no cramping and no bleeding.

Do you by any chance have a copper IUD? It's only the hormonal ones that stop/lessen periods.

I have the mirena because of Fibroids. I was very close to having to get surgery, but the IUD shrank it enough, so I didn't have to. I don't know why I've always had such problems with my cycles. And I've seen like 7 doctors. Ugh.
