even if i could i would never do sports as a job

this industry just takes and takes from players and then leaves them behind when they have used them all up

that said i agree with her

Egg freezing and a woman's right to family planning should be normalized in our society.

There is an enormous amount of time, effort, MONEY, energy that goes into egg freezing, IVF, ICSI, etc.

Protected ranking is used for injury when a player out for an extended period of time can use their protected ranking to enter tournaments that they would otherwise not have the ranking for after the time out with the ranking system

I don't understand sports much but this sounds fair. Cis men only have to deal with injuries as far as their competitive bodies go, and pregnancy is pretty much akin to an injury (or worse) in terms of competing/recovery so it seems like that right would even things out more.

Tennis players can now use a protective ranking when coming back from pregnancy so that's not what she is talking about. It's likely because of the hormones players need to take when undergoing this process. Serena made mention of this before she had her first kid.

Basically she's saying she had to do her egg freezing in the off season (tennis is pretty much an 11 month calendar) because of how it affects your body and she feels women should be able to do it whenever they want in a year without the risk of their ranking falling because they miss tournaments.
