Respectfully, I feel like that’s a bad takeaway. It was either a satisfying finale or it wasn’t, but just pleasing fans has led to a lot of mediocre television.

I think there's something to be said about creating an emotionally satisfying ending vs a "shocking" ending - not necessarily pandering to fans but taking into account the context of your viewers. Xena's ending is technically a good ending for a redeemed villain, storywise - for all the good she's done there are still things she can't fully atone for. But in the context of this being one of the first powerful female superheroes on screen, it's not a great ending for what she represents. It's the same thing that happened with Game of Thrones - power does corrupt, but it was done too quickly for fans to take in that message when they loved that character so much, and it similarly just felt like a punishment for being a heroic woman. The audience does provide a lot of context for how storylines will be interpreted, so in that way I think it's worth taking into consideration. It's a balancing act though, and like you said a lot of media has been ruined by fan service.

Give her a role on The Boys tbh. She could be the female version of Butcher.

I would be game for a Xena reboot/continuation ONLY if they fully embraced the campiness and queerness of the OG.

I agree and I would add not steering away from Xena and any Amazons, etc be buff/muscular. Like don't get me wrong Lucy Lawless had/has an amazing body but I wish media would let women have noticeable muscles more often

I do appreciate that they shot Lucy Lawless like a buff action hero - hiring shorter/smaller actors to put around her, shooting her from below, putting on massive armor to make her look giant and powerful. Would love to see some action women with serious muscles though, though not the mcu steroid kind.

The Amazons on that show looked like '90s underwear models most of the time. They need to go with the Wonder Woman (2017) look for them.

My elderly neighbor and her wife are HUGE fans and even went on the cruises back in the day. If the core fans that went to the conventions were their age I get where she’s coming from.

i mean it was 30 years ago... fans who were in their 40s then would be in their 70s now. it's not crazy to imagine. especially since lesbians tend to have a shorter lifespan than straight women.
