it's been like this for a while. i actually liked more songs this year with "greedy" and "espresso". my personal theory is that because music has moved to streaming, there's less money for songwriters and producers so less people are going into that field.

Sabrina tho. She know how to keep it cute and cut edge!

I truly only want Y2K pop back again. Everything were so on point. Everything bubblegum pop too.

On the other hand, I miss the likes of Fiona Apple, Shirley Manson, Michelle Branch and several to name, I know that’s super early 90s but where y’all at? Why is there no modern era Riot Girls etc? Like, we could’ve seen someone like them breaking records

There's still artists like that around. It's just harder for them to get mainstream attention.

Lol I would love for a Courtney Love incarnate to return to the scene. I can only imagine a messy queen throwing stuff at Ariana mid interview and then falling out of her chair to flash her cooch. An exquisite creature.

No it isn't.

I'd rather cut off my ears than listen to a heterosexual mans opinion on pop music.

It really isn't. Not after what top40 looked like in previous years.

Lol mte, I was like "at least women are doing stuff". I mean where are Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran or any other male pop soloist? Harry toured for like 2 years, Niall is currently touring but... what are the men doing?

Like a user said: the demand for music has radically changed with streaming and the need for quick songs that can go viral, which is a shame. I saw Gaga's Chromatica Ball and no one does it like her, except maybe Beyoncé. But they want to retire Gaga because she just doesn't release albums back to back with 30 songs, or songs that last under 3 minutes.

Mid 00's were the best.
You had older gals still making awesome music (Madona, Marijah, Janet,Kylie etc)
You had new established girls, Britney, Beyonce, X*ina, Jlo, Pink,Ashanti, Shakira
Pop rock~ Kelly K, Avril, some other flops
Great Hip Hop - Missy, 50 cent, etc
New girls - Riri, Solo Fergie, Gwen, Nelly F,

Evrything felt bigger cuz you weren't fed up with music via social media.
Starts were bit more mysterious~ you didn't had Meghan Traitor on every podcast talking how she prefers to a take dump

Or I'm just old and nostalgic

No I think you've got a point - everyone back then had their own style and sound, whereas now a lot of pop music could be from several pop artists because it's so bland and generic, they're all blending into one.

circa 2006-ish was kinda perfect.
