In recent weeks unlucky stars - be they singers, actors or amorphous 'influencers' - have been hauled on to the chopping 'block of the day' and metaphorically executed before a cheering online mob. Echoes of the bloody French Revolution are entirely intentional.

No they should be called out especially the ones who don't have to worry about being blacklisted like oprah or ts

you got people like mark ruffalo and the girl from brigerton(i forgot her name),and the director of the zone of interest putting their careers on the line

speak up or go to hell

yes, nicola has put all celebs to fucking SHAME. i used to be indifferent abt how celebs used their platform tbh, but after the way she dealt with her latest press rounds in raising 1.7M for the cause and raising so much awareness, everyone else who is silent look like such ghouls

Celebrities pal around with politicians and have them on speed dial when they get a fucking hangnail, but they wanna be silent on issues that have reached crisis level? Please.

ETA: Also, in the ACTUAL French Revolution, aristocrats were killed, so call it a kinder, gentler time now that the rich and powerful are just being cyberbullied. Sorry they can't promote their shitty products in peace while Palestinians are being murdered.

We had this post around the time of the MET Gala, so i'm glad to see another outlet is running with it because it's not something we should just let die of.

It's good if celebrities speak up, but making a social media post does not preclude them from helping IRL. Look at Amal Clooney. Besides, a lot of celebrity social media activism or their public activism of any kind is very performative and self-serving, anyways. Many celebrities are very stupid, which is why a lot of them are better off quietly helping behind the scenes by supporting good charities.

You’re not wrong, but they have teams that could vet all the charity orgs and crowfunding out there to find the effective/legitimate ones and all they’d have to do themselves is share a link. I can’t help but think of the families in Gaza depending on the outside world to donate to a fund so they can pay fucked up amounts to escape a genocide 😔 last night I donated to one and after conversion from my currency it was only €30, it felt so inadequate

You can't force people to speak on or do things. They're not your personal avatars or spokesperson. Plus I think their silence says it all, granted unless they are doing things behind the scenes cause not ever celeb puts out their business 24/7 and that's their right.

That said I don't think they're above criticism either, cause it funny seeing the celebs who are usually vocal about similar issues but quiet for others.

ETA: Plus the threats of blacklisting are going on, we had a post earlier in the week about that. Obvs some of these celebs won't be effected but we don't really know about small-to-mid level celebrity get effected.
