Oh, the irony 🥴. In that same vein, Tom is kind of a coward. I know that things could’ve been said in person and there’s not always a need for public declarations and maybe Francesca specifically asked him not to say anything on her behalf, but his voice could’ve been used to quell the racist abuse she’s received online.

Yeah, like you said, unless she privately asked him not to comment, absolutely. People always argue that saying something doesn't actually work to change people's minds, but to me it's not necessarily about changing people's minds, but about signaling to your colleague that you have their back.

i think it's more enjoyable if you view it as a satire about how stupid and melodramatic teenagers are.

That's literally what Romeo and Juliet is, though. The whole point is that because of their families' unwillingness to put their petty feud aside, two dumb teenagers end up making increasingly rash decisions that ultimately lead to their death. That's why Romeo moves on from Rosaline so quickly despite waxing poetic over her at first; it's to illustrate his impulsivity. Same with him stabbing himself when Juliet was just fake dead; if he'd just wait a few minutes then they'd both be fine.

R&J not being one of Shakespeare's best is one thing but 'not particularly a good play' is wild

To be fair, even in the play, Romeo was always a little leaf that wents wherever the wind blowed. Juliet has always been the one who did all of the heavy lifting.

Literally came here to say Romeo is a complete soggy biscuit of a character. So based on that review he’s kind of nailing it.

Seriously. There's a reason Juliet gets all the best speeches and poetry too.

I saw Hirano Ryuichi from the Royal Ballet play Romeo and he was so charismatic and fuckbo-y that you know most people... They would, yanno. And for once I kinda get why Juliet would get swept away 😂
