Had a NY trip recently and saw Suffs. I absolutely loved it. It was touching, empowering, not preachy, funny, heartfelt and managed a great balance between history and what it means for the present and future. I highly recommend. All the women around me were having a great time, and my friends also loved it. The night I was there they had a talk afterwards about passing the NY state ERA.

I also saw & Juliet and was less impressed. It was fine? The music was fun, but the message/story felt over generalized and a bit hackneyed to me. You could tell they wrote the book to fit the songs, so it was less organic and cohesive.

Prior to this, I hadn't seen a Broadway show since the early 00s, and something that's so cool to see now is how much more diverse the casts are, mains and ensembles. And lots more openly LGBTQ+ performers too, which is fantastic. I'm sure the progress happened slowly, but for me the difference was notable.

The people they have writing lyrics these days absolutely suck. :/

They should make Crimson Peak or something into a musical.

Or maybe I'm just missing Phantom of the Opera being there as the romantic / date musical.

Okay, I've got an open slot left for a show I am meh on seeing, based on story/reviews.

Between The Notebook, Water for Elephants or The Outsiders - who's got a strong rec?

Also, has anyone seen The Hours at the Met? Thoughts?

I think I'll have to buy a ticket for Merrily. I'm just getting back into Broadway.
