Mike Schur Knows 'Parks and Rec' Would Have Seemed 'Naive' Post-Trump

Really enjoyed my conversation with ‘Parks and Rec’ co-creator Mike Schur about the show’s legacy, its best behind-the-scenes moments, and why it could never be the same today. https://t.co/K6i5rSK2Hv

I'd love something like a drama that dealt with civil servants dealing with a corrupt government that wasn't dramatic but just about the grind

There should be a comedy with normal people trying to deal with the MAGA idiots destroying their town. Cause they're both evil and hilariously dumb.

yes exactly; I know I said I both wanted a drama but it not to be dramatic, but I just don't need something like 24 or even grey's anatomy where there's bombs and terrorists and a hero solving problems... just the grind. ala office space.

I will always adore this show. Such a great cast (rip likeable chris Pratt) and almost every character was enjoyable.

I don’t think anyone actually watched it for the political aspect, although I did love the campaign run against Paul Rudd. It definitely would not have worked in today’s political climate though.

All of this!! It’s still one of my comfort shows and remains one of the only series DVD sets I still own.

I’m actually watching this show for the first time and I’m really enjoying it, though not for the political aspect.

I enjoyed the series tbh! It was genuinely hilarious and wholesome. It was kinda touching and nostalgic for simpler times if we think about it. The future time jump was wild. So I cannot blame that being like viewing thru rose hued glasses. I mean, to think the other show VEEP is not that far fetched from irl yet remain screaming-hilarious at all times. Happy Endings on the other hand would’ve been gone better too and could’ve lasted longer season wise in relevance just like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It can poke fun at messy politics (and corrupted racist politicians like Marjorie) if it can get clever! It had some faults too but the chemistry, comedic timing and everything else was right there. Something, something about making it well rounded and balanced without, like, having to tiptoe around societal differences or political awareness and other relatable issues etc. It’s like all har har har, in yer face. if anything else, MadTv did it great and continue to be relevant after decades ( ... )
