Menstruation being considered disgusting and taboo is by design from cis men throughout history (religion being a big one), despite it being a natural process (also see body hair). It's because of that, young kids cannot get accurate information on what's going on with their bodies makes them more susceptible for misinformation and shame.

Even in my 30s, there's still a lot I don't know or feel comfortable with esp as a trans person, so that's why it's important to de-stigmatize menstruation. I don't remember who recommended me this book, but I hope that my library carries it soon (I'm gonna buy it anyway for my own reference when I can): https://bookshop.org/p/books/blood-the-science-medicine-and-mythology-of-menstruation-jen-gunter/20636452?ean=9780806540689

The way male led religions consider women dirty while menstruating is revolting

i find going to the temple relaxing even if i don’t believe in buddhism but if my mom finds out i have my period she will tell me to stay home because I’m “dirty”

Stuff like that makes me so angry. And the fact that it's in almost all religions in some form or other. Women being made to stay in huts, away from everyone else, because our bodies are soooo dirty and scary. One of my friends told me that in Orthodox Judaism there's a thing where a woman will have a special religious bath after her period so that she's "cleansed" and can have sex again or something like that. idk, it does not sit well with me.

There are definitely a thousand children’s books about periods! My mom got me one when I was like 7 (after begging her) and then I didn’t get it for another 8 years hahahaha. Cool story bro, etc, I know.

But anyway, Jessica Biel ain’t exactly being a trailblazer is my point.

My mom never talked to me about anything period related, but my sister and I were into American Girl and my parents bought us "The Care and Keeping of You" when I was, like, 11? That saved me when my period finally started at school when I was 13.

That's a great idea, I would have love to have a book to learn a thing or two. I went to a catholic school and had the same experience as someone who has previously commented. Even worse, the day I got my period my parents had been fighting. I was 14 and was "excited" to become a woman (LOL) but since my mom was such in a terrible mood, she never left the bed, didn't react at all actually, she only told me were the pads were. It seems minor but it was an awful experience since I didn't know shit (a few months later when I started attending quianceañeras' parties, she never once advice me on clothes or makeup either... really sad teenage years).
Anyways, great idea. Hopefully her next great idea will be divorcing her lame ass husband.

An anti-vaxxer didn’t know about her body? Shocking.

And, girl, no one needs to know why you’re going to the bathroom. That’s not part of any taboo.
