Menstruation being considered disgusting and taboo is by design from cis men throughout history (religion being a big one), despite it being a natural process (also see body hair). It's because of that, young kids cannot get accurate information on what's going on with their bodies makes them more susceptible for misinformation and shame.

Even in my 30s, there's still a lot I don't know or feel comfortable with esp as a trans person, so that's why it's important to de-stigmatize menstruation. I don't remember who recommended me this book, but I hope that my library carries it soon (I'm gonna buy it anyway for my own reference when I can): https://bookshop.org/p/books/blood-the-science-medicine-and-mythology-of-menstruation-jen-gunter/20636452?ean=9780806540689

The way male led religions consider women dirty while menstruating is revolting

i find going to the temple relaxing even if i don’t believe in buddhism but if my mom finds out i have my period she will tell me to stay home because I’m “dirty”

Stuff like that makes me so angry. And the fact that it's in almost all religions in some form or other. Women being made to stay in huts, away from everyone else, because our bodies are soooo dirty and scary. One of my friends told me that in Orthodox Judaism there's a thing where a woman will have a special religious bath after her period so that she's "cleansed" and can have sex again or something like that. idk, it does not sit well with me.

That is in the Bible, the Torah and the Qu'ran that women are impure and must be purified.

Also men who have wet dreams are so there's that.

to be fair, it's bleeding large amounts of blood that's impure. And idk about the other faith but in Islam that's when she's given a break from praying and fasting so that's nice.

I like to believe the supreme being is a woman and she said "Take as long as you need and feel free to say it's my law" so women could leave and go hang out with other women for a week once a month. :)

I used to use my period to get out of going to Hindu temple, but I always thought, if I wasn't agnostic and really was a believer, it would really be soul-crushing that I was considered "impure" by the gods because of this natural biological state.

I haven't read her newest book yet, but I definitely recommend her first two books (The Vagina Bible and The Menopause Manifesto). Anyone who has had comprehensive sex education doesn't really need to read The Vagina Bible, but it's a good reference. The Menopause Manifesto made me realize that I was taught absolutely ZERO about menopause in all the years that I took various sex ed, health, and biology classes in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.
