I find these constant casting team ups so boring.
I wouldn’t be mad if Jesse finally got some award love though. He’s so good. Still can’t believe my boy lance became so successful :’)

Sometimes it brings out the best in directors/artists (like Wes Anderson was at his best co-writing with Luke Wilson/having him also star in the films, or the Richard Linklater and Jack Black combo that brought out new facets of both so well), other times you end up with directors shoehorning in their buddies/girl they think is hot and they end up doing the same movies/roles over and over again. Like Helena Bonham Carter is a very interesting actress but got pretty pigeonholed while she was with Tim Burton, and he played it too safe as well. If you see too many of Adam Sandler's besties in a new film it's probably best to skip it lol.

I never cared for Yorgos and I miss Emma's comedy, but this is netting them awards so I guess they'll be doing this for a while.

You mean Owen Wilson.

I agree that collaborative relationships can become stale and limiting though. This is only Yorgos and Emma's third collaboration, so I haven't gotten sick of them together yet, but I might in the future.

One interesting thing about Helena Bonham Carter is that she complained about getting pigeonholed in period films, then got pigeonholed in far worse movies.

I can't believe I mixed Luke and Owen up but yes! And yeah 3 collaborations is usually safe, but this article points to a fourth (The Favorite, Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness, this).

Poor HBC, she actually did some amazing period pieces right in a row (Room With A View, Lady Jane, Howards End, Twelfth Night, etc.) but she often got stuck in the "English Rose" role specifically, and often in the Merchant Ivory films. I adored her in Conversations With Other Women and Merlin and some of her lesser known roles, she has a ton of range but didn't always get to use it.

Joe Wright and Kiera Knightley had a much better partnership, even though they stuck to period films she got to play different, fairly complex characters (equivalent to or more complex than the male roles). I love the three films they did together.

I don't usually love Yorgos' films or the way women are viewed in them, but honestly if a woman finds a male director she feels comfortable with and actually likes the roles she's given I totally get it. There's so many creeps in hollywood, and so many men who refuse to give interesting roles to women, I'd never leave either. Unless he's sleeping with her/turns out to be a creep himself, then blegh.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I've loved Yorgos since Dogooth and am looking forward to this!

I liked dogtooth and lobster. Then I started disliking his work so it’s not like liking him when dogtooth came out is an unpopular opinion. In fact if he made another movie like that I’d like it lol
