I mean, aside from this particular movie and the concept of clapping for ungodly lenghts...how do these people feel the next day??? Clapping for so long hurts!

My dad once got super drunk and flopped his right hand around all evening like he was swatting an imagery fly and his hand was twice the size the next day lmao (And he did not remember what happened)

When Covid protocols were still place where I live, I've gone to concerts where you can't make noise (this was 2021 and early 2022). So when we ask for encores we all clap in unison. The longest has got to be over 10 mins, closer to 15, I'm sure we look like a cult to bystanders but I weirdly like it tbh!

There is a very illuminating AP article on Cannes standing ovations: https://apnews.com/article/cannes-film-festival-standing-ovations-explained-413682190cfef927b90c54ad9daa8ebe

Going from this it's apparently only really telling if it is truly insanely long, like Pan's Labyrinth's 22 minutes.

Fair. I can’t imagine seeing Pan’s Labyrinth for the first time with no expectations.

Going in with no expectations is the only way. I was able to avoid knowing pretty much anything about it before watching it and it that was still one of the best cinema experiences ever.

How do people clap for 7 minutes? I'm over it within 30 seconds.

Also who feels more awkward, the first person to stop and sit down or the last person to stop and sit down?

Look, I love Anya and I bet this movie is really really good. But isn't it a lot to clap for 7 minutes? I mean... it must be great but I don't imagine it being groundbreaking enough to deserve 7 minutes of applause.mp3?

I just checked. The Idol got 5 minutes last year. I don’t think it means that much

At Canne the minimum clapping is around 3-4 minutes for the worst possible movie. Seven means not so good to so so. When we get past 10 then it’s a good movie.

I hate that I know this.
