I somewhat agree that the nepo baby label tends to get used slightly more toward women than men. Kate Hudson is called out more for being a nepo baby than Wyatt Russell. I also get her point about using baby being infantilizing, I never saw it that way, but I can see how it can be perceived that way.

That said, I’m getting tired of nepo babies keeping the nepo baby conversation going. It seems like the only time the nepo baby discourse is brought up, it’s by a nepo baby being mad that they are being called a nepo baby.

I agree to an extent. Kate is known to be Goldie’s daughter, etc while who is checking for Wyatt Russell? (And I like him!)

When the nepo baby discourse became more mainstream people were shocked *Phoebe Buffay SHOCKED* by some of the nepo babies they didn’t know of.

Kate's brother Oliver Hudson was called out for being a nepo baby quite often around his Rules of Engagement era.

Lily Allen must not be a secret ONTDer or she would see that a lot of boys are referred to as nepo babies here. While I understand a 40 year old adult feeling infantilized by being called a baby, that is the smallest part of any nepo baby's defense. You know the thing that REALLY bothers them is the nepo part of "nepo baby." Even if we agreed to formally refer to them as "adult beneficiaries of nepotism," they would still be complaining about how they work so hard so that they can keep ignoring the fact that having industry connections IS a real advantage that they don't want to acknowledge.

Oh yeah, Lily is grasping at straws to shift the discourse. She has a semi valid point, but is purposefully ignoring the main argument.

Ugh, agreed. Niche example and not the same thing but as a Below Deck fan, I hate when women pull the misogyny line anytime someone criticizes Captain Sandy. Nah, she just sucks.

I stopped watching after she fired Hannah. Hannah was trying to make a dignified exit, because she knew she was wrong for not declaring her meds. When sandy started following her around the docks to instigate some dramatic fight Hannah just ignored it. It just showed that Sandy was a petty small person. Prior to Hannah’s firing there was some deckhand that was still clearly drunk from the night before (I think it was a different season). Sandy continued to let him work but had a gentle conversation with him after the fact. Don’t get me started on how shitty Malia was that season too. Going on and on about maritime law and how awful Hannah was and that she was a drug addict and her anxiety wasn’t real. But then a few episodes later Malia is over the top concerned and fawning over Jess when she had a panic attack.

Sorry I still have feelings about that.

I didn't realize Alfie Allen was her brother.

The term 'nepo baby' is definitely overused.

She wrote a song about him for her first album, then decided to make a MV with both a clean and an explicit version.

I don’t think “nepo baby” is sexist, but I absolutely see Karen being used in a sexist way all the time. A lot of people use it to describe women who defend themselves or are being “loud” in any way.

There are a lot of white men who've co-opted Karen as a way to say "bitch" openly.

Its original meaning stands, but I think it's fine to acknowledge the above and call it out.
