I have seen more and more Gen Z people claiming to be “queer”, but saying it has nothing to do with their sexuality, just their style and their “vibe”.

googled, he was born in 1987 SF... he watched men die in the 90s? 🤔

I think he must be looking back as an adult with his awareness of the gay experience because it's unlikely he realized there were differences in the lived experiences of LGBTQ people when he was a child. We had a family friend when I was about 15 who was either a cross dresser or a trans woman and I was just like "Ok, sometimes but not always he likes to wear women's clothes and get called by a woman's name, fine with me." Then again, maybe Darren's parents were really progressive and educated him about these issues.

Deaths from AIDS peaked around the mid-90s in the states, and PrEP didn’t come along until the 2010s I think? so it’s possible living in SF he saw people who were in some of the later stages of the disease. People tend to become very thin and frail sadly.

he would have been like under 10yrs old then is what i mean. unless family members were dying or his parents really educated him about AIDs, what are the odds of an under 10yr old knowing about all that ya know?

i'll give him about 5% credit for acknowledging that most of his performance/skill is modeled after greater LGBT+ actors. i think darren criss often tries to say something he thinks is well-meaning, but he's a bit too 'lost in the sauce'/pretentious to really convey it well.

Yeah, he wants to be seen as an artiste but he's just a guy.

I'm so unsurprised by him saying this. I get what he's saying but that's not his word.
