Anne Hathaway's name is synonymous with early '00s rom-coms, but the actress stopped getting pitched romantic scripts as she neared her 40s - until The Idea of You came along. https://t.co/Vvu9IH5fEz

They usually want some ridiculous age gap with an older male lead, or there’s the rare elderly love story. Tbh I actually enjoy movies where people are exploring their freedom, themselves and having fun with their friends in their 40’s vs. the romantic love story angle.

Same. There was a period circa 2009 - maybe 2012 where there was like 3 or 4 movies about people traveling and chilling, and many were elderly, and those were so refreshing instead of "woman worried she won't hit arbitrary indicators of adulthood."

Maybe it’s cause I’m near 40 now but romance between 20 somethings kinda lost the spark for me. Watching older people living their lives is so refreshing, especially as women, since we’re led to believe you should be a wife and a mother by the time you’re 40 & you have no business doing anything else anymore. Honestly, I had more fun watching the friendships and romantic endeavors on Grace & Frankie than with most romcoms I’ve seen in the past 10 years.

I like watching them because way too many young people (some even here, lol) think that people 45+ sit in a chair and wait for death to take them, and it's ridiculous.

Not surprising. Once an actress turns 25, she’s no longer seen as sexy, and gets offered mom roles, where the kid is in their teens.

I mean no romance films are even getting made unless it's Netflix or Lifetime shit.

And now she's the lead in a One Direction fanfic romance.

Obviously part of it's because Hollywood hates casting women over like 30 in roles like that but the other part of it is just that they just aren't making rom coms anymore.
