Anne Hathaway's name is synonymous with early '00s rom-coms, but the actress stopped getting pitched romantic scripts as she neared her 40s - until The Idea of You came along. https://t.co/Vvu9IH5fEz

Sorry but every time she talks about sexism and ageism it makes me roll my eyes because I remember one time like a decade+ ago she was in a roundtable with all these amazing actresses including Sally Field and they were talking about this exact issue and she was like "It doesn't exist anymore though!"

Easy to say in your 20s.

There’s a reason it’s called internalized sexism. And I can’t imagine any young person not thinking they know how the world works when they’re in their twenties. It never hurts to have empathy and understanding towards others.

Besides Shape of You, Anyone But You, and maybe Fall Guy, can anyone name another romantic movie with wide release, I'll even say 3000+ theaters in the past year?

I couldn't even name all three of the ones you listed. Seems like rom-coms are a streaming staple now, since all the ones I thought of were exclusive to those.

Rom Coms are something that pass me by like a bullet train, despite being Chronically On Movie Forums. It was a struggle to not go "Crazy Rich Asians" when that was 6 years ago.

Besides that and The Female Brain, I've not seen one in ....ages.

I don’t get why some of you seem so deeply confused by Anne doing this film lol She’s already proven herself to be a good actor, she doesn’t need to take tough, emotionally draining roles if she’s in the mood for something lighter. It’s an easy paycheck and it must’ve been far less exhausting than filming stuff like Interstellar.

Idk I find the reaction to this film so OTT. She clearly had fun with it, let the woman start her DeNiro streak of dumb films sooner rather than later.

I am definitely gonna watch it. I’m actually mad it doesn’t come out sooner lol. I watched anyone but you the other night and was super disappointed because the leads just didn’t have any chemistry

I would argue this movie doesn't even some dumb in the DeNiro Bad Grandpa/Meet the Fockers vein, it just seems like a lighter, breezier fun movie although I deeply agree with the rest of your point. It probably ends up being a drag to always play a heavy and serious role just because there's more alleged critical acclaim attached to it.
