Although I like the format change (which is unsurprising because I also liked Step It Up and Dance), I don't know how sustainable it is for viewers. This week they got to waste time with all of the "OMG LOOK AT OUR HOUSE!!!" but can they really justify an hourlong show every week when they're only showing us two dance routines? This week it seemed a bit unfair that one group got contemporary and the other group got hip hop. Next week is Broadway so I'm assuming that however many groups they have will all learn a Broadway routine. I would have preferred that they did that this week with the music videos to make it more fair.
The most surprising thing was that they eliminated two girls but I am glad that they aren't doing boy/girl eliminations just for the sake of keeping an even number of male/female dancers.
The biggest negative to this format is that with five dancers in each group, it wasn't as easy to watch everyone to see how each dancer was doing. And viewers are not going to get attached to specific dancers if they keep doing

I didn’t hate the format but there are things they should have kept from the old version like introducing the dancers. I barely know who everyone is. At the top of the show have Cat say their names while they do a little dance step.
I don’t mind a bit of house stuff but I would much rather have more rehearsal time and more feedback from the choreographers if we need filler. I want to know and invest in the dancers and cooking egg sandwiches isn’t going to cut it.
I totally agree about keeping the intro where Cat says each dancer’s name as they do a quick move. I always loved that part of the show! It doesn’t take much time and it helps us learn their names. It was also fun to see that in the later weeks of the season when some of them stopped using it to do flashier show off tricks and started doing sillier things that showed their personalities.
When Cat rattled off the five dancers in each group this week, my reaction was “…WHOMST?!” Granted, we just finished auditions and then had two weeks with no episodes which didn’t help, but that’s why the little dance intros would have really helped remind us who the hell these people are.

I've never been into this show, but the format change is actually kind of bringing me in.
