Hutchins' mother, Olga Solovey, said that no one involved in her daughter's death ever reached out to express sympathy

I genuinely hope that’s enough time to reflect on her actions and to develop remorse for the human being who was killed in part by her carelessness. But I doubt it.

This is one of those cases where I struggle between what's reasonable and what's just punitive for punitive's sake in the American system. 18 months probably isn't unreasonable if she actually serves the whole sentence. She's unlikely to get hired as an armorer again and she didn't intentionally commit an act of malice, even if she's a bitch about it. But if there's a possibility of parole, or getting an early release... no way, she deserves every second of this sentence, and she needs it in order for her to possibly learn something about responsibility.

Mostly I hope Halyna's family is okay with this sentence and that they're surrounded by a lot of support and love.
