The issue with her - and also part of why she has so many supporters, still, including other celebrities - is that she tries to brand it as "I love trans people and agree with their right to exist," but then it completely breaks down into her own victimhood because she simultaneously believes that trans women have no place in women-centric spaces, and are in fact a danger to the rights and protections that women have fought so hard to achieve. So it's very "you're fine, but stay the fuck away from me and mine," which is still so close-minded and ignorant and hateful, but she wraps it up with a shiny "but I totally don't hate you - look, a trans Harry Potter character!" ribbon. And other boomers are of course very drawn to the "I don't hate you, I just can't support you" bullshit rhetoric.

It's not like Harry Potter was a bastion of progressivism - which isn't unpopular to say now but I def remember critics getting attacked for saying so in HP's heyday - but it's still amazing how far down the rabbit hatehole Rowling has fallen. She pissed away so much goodwill and for what? Girl has a mansion and fuck you money, and she can't think of any better way to spend her time than be miserable about trans people while cozying up to/defending abusive men. Makes sense!

It must gall her that the HP main trio turned out to be decent human beings and that they're not sucking up to and defending her just because she gave them their break. That's what having integrity looks like, Joanne.
