The way I laughed when [Spoiler (click to open)]I realized Toranaga gave the priest the land next to the brothel.
This was a great ep and I knew ‘ol boy was up to something! Very sad about Hiromatsu though. 😭 I like that he got that scolding in for Buntaro though. “You will know what it is to be denied.” *chef’s kiss*
Was Blackburn in on it though or was he just counting on him being like that?
Either way I hope we get some boar steaminess with him and Mariko. Sorry not sorry!
i was even feeling for buntaro in this episode briefly, so shoutout to the actor who plays him for pulling that off. mariko absolutely destroying him was a great moment. the hiromatsu twist was wild too.
i am both really amped for next week's episode and very afraid lol. i have a bad feeling about what's going to happen (no book spoilers please), but i've seen multiple reviewers say the episode is incredible and i can't wait to see it.
I'm one episode behind on watching but I have to say again that the casting is perfection. Like even the more minor characters like Buntaro and Toranaga's brother are excellent! even when they're not in that many scenes.
I loved that Buntaro was catching shit left and right in this episode. I absolutely CACKLED at the end of the tea scene with Mariko. I know they wanted me to feel bad for him when he started crying, but I was like yeah, man, sucks that the wife you smacked around turned down your suicide offer.
I admit I was actually beginning to feel bad for him when his dad summoned him to chop his head off, but then his dad made that very pointed comment about “now you’ll know what it feels like to be denied,” I let out a very That 70s Show “ooh, BURN!” and laughed some more. I’m glad that he clearly saw how his son had treated Mariko all these years, denying her the one thing she wanted. I felt bad that Mariko lost such a sympathetic ally when he died.

Hiromatsu stood on business, I love him so much.
I don’t want this show to end - every episode is amazing.
I also want a Yabu/Blackthorne training montage/buddy cop adventure on the high seas now!
