Yeah my mom gave birth to my sister on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. Even crazier is that she had a home birth with no one there except my dad and a midwife. At the time she was working on a startup company. In retrospect it was still pretty fucked.

Shortly after I recently hired her, one of my staff disclosed she was pregnant and due to the personal circumstances around it and I guess just being quite young/green in the work place she anxiously said “I don’t know if telling you this will get me fired” and I was like “?! That would be illegal. Also this is organization is 90% women. There has been at least one employee on mat leave for the last five years. Also we’re not monsters and again, that would be highly illegal.”
Actually, one of my staff who was on a one-year contract was due around the time her contract was ending, so we renewed for over a year to ensure she could receive EI and be covered during mat leave and we’re like, if you want to come back after, we’ll renew (or hire permanent if we’re able), if you don’t, you’ll be able to have benefits at least a year+.

The episode of superstore where Amy goes back to work like 24hrs after birth enraged me so much.

We have such poor imaginations or ability to see past things. I went to a play several years ago where the female lead looked like she was ready to start pushing on stage but the character she played wasn’t pregnant. It was a great show and who cares? She’s got a big belly. 🤷🏽‍♀️
