You can’t even drive 10 days after a c-section.

She almost got fired?

Back then you could get fired and replaced from tv if you got pregnant because it might mess with the storyline when those bellies start showing.

I think I remember hearing about soap actress who famously sued cause she got fired or something when she got pregnant.

It was Hunter tylo that sued Aaron spelling because she got fired from "Melrose Place" for getting pregnant

Edit to add that she won $4.8 million

[More about it] In 1996, Tylo was cast in the primetime soap opera Melrose Place and opted to leave The Bold and the Beautiful to take the role. However, she was fired by Melrose Place producer Aaron Spelling prior to filming any episodes for the series when she announced she was pregnant. The character she was to play, Taylor McBride, was recast with Lisa Rinna taking the role. Tylo quickly returned to The Bold and the Beautiful. Tylo sued Spelling on grounds of discrimination for being pregnant and won $4.8 million from a Los Angeles jury. Spelling argued that Tylo's pregnancy rendered her unable to play the character, who was supposed to be a sexy seductress. During the trial, Tylo published pictures of herself while pregnant which showed that she retained a slim figure.

Gillian was treated pretty horribly during her first few years on The X-Files all in all. Asking/pressuring anyone to go back to work so soon after giving birth is awful.

Plus, with hindsight, Gillian getting pregnant and how it was written into the show basically drove the main arc for the rest of the show's existence.

I just wrote the same thing above before reading your comment! It absolutely drove some of the ideas that led to Scully's cancer arc, Emily,... A lot of the better mythology stuff on the show. Eventually, it made no sense, but I digress.

But she was such a newbie at a time that she did get steamrolled. Networks were all powerful and very inflexible in terms of when TV seasons aired so I'm sure she basically had no choice but be back on set.

Things have changed but not that much. On Office Ladies, Jenna Fischer talked about having a baby in S8 (so around 2012), and it was rough on her. She had allies on the set of The Office, but as she said, she still had a lot of pressure to show up very soon after birth. They wouldn't accommodate her like they accommodated some of her costars who went off to film movies during the season. It was not nearly as grueling of a schedule as TXF.
