Her last big hit from her first Hits album was a bop, but Gaga had started her reign.

Yeah Gaga def sounded fresher and more interesting whereas I remember thinking this song and Not Myself Tonight 2 years later sounded generic and dated.

Plus I always felt Christina genre-jumping for every new album occasionally polarized her audience.

its just wild to me how she had a great era for Back to Basics, but then it just was dunzo.

Whether she was going to do an album like Bionic next anyway or not, it just seemed bad timing with Gagas whole shtick.
In retrospect, Not Myself Tonight is a fine song tho.

Lol I remember when she ended the B2B era with “my next album is gonna a whole new thing” and I remember thinking “but you have a good thing right now!! 😭😫”.

Yeah the timing was not great for her. Plus like other comments mention at the time it does seem like she was behind instead or on trend or ahead of the curve. Gaga and the other girls were the new wave.

I know Perez says that Gaga help orchestrate that backlash against Christina but also I tend to find unrealistic that is why her career took a dip. Cause I know that episode between them when Christina released her greatest hits album in 2008 and Gaga had already debuted with Just Dance and ironically Poker Face was released a day after Christina put Keeps Getting Better

Rih and Katy were definitely the hit makers of the 2000s. Hit after hit after hit.

Bionic was a decent album, but we were all caught up in gaga fever.

I remember when iamwhoiamwhoami (I think that’s what it was 🤔) first appeared and people thought it was Christina. I remember being disappointed that it wasn’t Christina. 😂
