“I don't know if every woman goes through life like this, wondering, Am I pretty enough? Am I considered beautiful or not?,” muses @shakira in her Allure cover interview. “Sometimes you just look in the mirror and say, "It's a yes. And I can conquer the world.” Read more about… pic.twitter.com/UAaPwjWygG

i didn't like it either tbh the scene where she looks at the old woman on the bench and cries and says "you're beautiful" was so cringe. you're trying to say physical appearance doesn't matter and we're all beautiful when you're a movie based on a doll that is the embodiment of physical female perfection lol.

Barbie is saying Ann Roth’s character is beautiful is her saying human beings are beautiful - she’s commenting on humanity, not appearances.

this. plus the movie to that point had been her freaking out about imperfections and cellulite and then she actually sees beauty in life and life reflected in people’s faces.

"I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide."

I love how we're like "men need to stop oppressing and abusing women" and people cry that it means men can't be big strong manly men! It's just so weird that certain men can't be "protective" without also being misogynistic, controlling, abusive dicks.

this is wild, almost every sentence is a red flag. like the article may as well have just put a red flag emoji in quotation marks and saved the print space.

somehow I have serious doubts that her sons will grow up to balance their need to feel powerful (🤢) with a genuine interest in respecting women.

mte, and one of the layers of the red flags is, if they actually said this (which is its own can of worms), she thought it was perfectly cool to share it on with the world. Yike.
