I admit I've got a lot of problems with the return to the RTD era--just the fact that he seems to be bringing back so many of the elements that made up his first era for a second go-around. Something about that irks me, BUT I recognize that the man knows and loves Doctor Who and he did managed to get me genuinely excited about the show again when Chibnall just couldn't, so I'm trying real hard to reserve my judgement for awhile.

Either way, the main thing here is...Ncuti is SO GOOD. Everything I've seen of him is fantastic and he just seems elated to be the Doctor. I'm legitimately so happy for him and so excited for more of him.

Tbh I welcome it because at least he knows how to world build. Every time Moffat attempted a similar thing of “It’s your best friends - the lesbian lizard couple!” it felt a bit forced.

I agree. It's such a desperate move. Rather than moving forward, they just keep dancing back to the fan service to try and recapture fans instead of improving the issues that had many fans leave in the first place.

I loved Doctor Who but I'm so bored, you know? Stop pandering to the audience and develop something interesting. They literally have all of time and space and it's the same stuff again and again...

But I am excited for Ncuti. I think he's perfect, and I'm really hoping I can fall back in love.

EXACTLY. I'll give Chibnall this: I may not have liked his era, but he did bring on a lot of new writers and new crew and tried some different things. I just don't think he was the right person to run this show. RTD seems to be bringing in a lot of the old people and trying to recapture his first run. Like...I like Murray Gold, but we don't have to bring Murray Gold back to do the music when there's a lot of other great composers out there, you know? And admittedly, starting the whole thing off with Tennant's return left a really sour taste in my mouth. I hope I'm wrong and it works out okay, but I'm veryyy hesitant going in. I just hope Ncuti gets the run he deserves, especially when Jodi didn't.

Ncuti’s charisma could carry me through most plot points but I could do with less singing.

the moment I saw Jinkx Monsoon, I pressed play on Eccleston's first episode. I've tried getting into Doctor Who once before, but Jinkx Monsoon and Jonathan Groff playing a regency man is the thing that does it.
