this is something i realized was a thing i was doing when i touched a woman's arm when trying to get her attention to give her a compliment. the moment i touched her i was immediately embarrassed and it made me call myself out and question why i had to compliment the lady's sneakers so bad i needed to get her attention when she was minding her business. not every thought needs to be shared with other people is a lesson i unfortunately have to remind myself of

I thought about what you said and I'm of two minds about it? On one hand, don't bother people who are minding their business. On the other hand, I've been on the receiving end of audible comments made by women who just wanted to be shitty for the sake of being shitty so much that I feel that women being kind and genuinely complimenting other women should be more normalized. Telling someone that the dress they're wearing is a great color on them, or that their skin is glowing and they look fabulous, or that their shoes are nice can make someone's day. I guess I'm just so tired of people being shitty about other people's looks I just want to do the opposite of that. Then again, I don't approach people who are occupied with my nonsense, and I also realize that my age makes people more comfortable and receptive (because they know my compliments are genuine and not coming from a predatory place).

i like giving people compliments bc i know how much they make me happy lol but there's definitely a good time & place to do so and sometimes i get too eager in saying something nice that i can kinda miss context clues that say maybe don't extend this further than yourself. i definitely overthink it!
