This is Comfort's last week as a judge. Beginning next week, JoJo Siwa joins Allison and Max in the judging panel. The real competition finally begins next week!
I was decently satisfied with the initial audition episodes but ugh, this one was rough. Why bother having two choreography rounds if they’re just going to choose whoever they want regardless of how badly they danced? One girl got cut for missing a single turn, but Roman and Anthony who were egregiously off the music for all 16 bars both got through? The editors were kind enough to crop Jaylin out of most of the shots of his group but it was still pretty obvious that he was off and his technique wasn’t great, yet he got through too.
ETA: I totally understand wanting some diversity in the top ten so that it isn't all white girls doing flaily contemporary, but at least in the previous versions of the show they had the "dance for your life" solo to justify keeping someone who was terrible in the choreography rounds. Without that, some of their choices are coming off as really biased and unfair (because come on, like Maks was going to let a Ukrainian ballroom dancer get cut
( ... )
I've fallen off the sytycd train (Nigel's grossness aside). Do they have rotating judges for auditions and main ones for the show? Also, Comfort and Donyelle are absolute queens
When S18 was announced, the plan was already for Comfort to only judge during auditions. Nigel was supposed to be one of the permanent judges (with Allison and Maks) during the rest of the show but after all of the sexual assault allegations, they brought back JoJo to be his replacement.
I would have loved Comfort being on the regular judging panel for the rest of the season but since the original plan was for her to only be there during auditions, I'm guessing she wasn't available. According to a union notice, SYTYCD was supposed to film through January 29. Comfort was the associate choreographer on the film adaptation of Wicked and they finished shooting on January 26, so I'm assuming she had to be on set for that.
I forgot to mention that Galen Hooks gets extra credit for using Canned Heat for the first choreography round. When I saw Center Stage, I thought Jamiroquai was singing "got candy in my heels."
