Angela Bassett says losing the 2023 Oscar for best supporting actress was a "supreme disappointment."

Angela had other performances that were more worthy of getting an oscar. But she was still very good in black panther 2. This win definitely would've been her career award, which would've been more deserving than Jamie Lee Curtis' oscar for EEAAO. I think the academy did not want to award a Marvel movie for an acting performance, which is one of their bigger awards.

Oh 100% it was a career win narrative similar to Jamie but at least Angela actually gives something in that role. But I knew she was never gonna win because the academy wasn't about to give a Marvel movie an acting accolade. Still great that she managed to get that far for a marvel product though!!

I think Jamie and Angela sort of both had the career award thing going, and Angela's nom being for a Marvel movie definitely did not help her in the end.

I hate that they keep doing these career Oscars year after year, it always makes for the most nonsensical winners.

So many people never win for the year they should have and then you end up robbing someone who deserved it that year. It's getting ridiculous at this point.

Should've gone to Kerry but I don't blame any of the 4 nominees for being disappointed in losing to Jamie cause that win will always be B U L L !!

The snobbery the academy has for comic book movies hurt her campaign, she’s also overdue but Stephanie should’ve won over both of them, I’d rank JLC last in that category. She had the overdue veteran narrative going for her the same way RDJ does this year.

I'll take Robert's career narrative win over Jamie any day cause at least he was actually important to the movie and plot whereas Jamie was a glorified cameo in her movie.

Lol that's just not true, she was basically the secondary bad guy. Multiple scenes including tax bad guy, fighting bad guy, hot dog fingers, resolution. Imo the fact her side character had an arc speaks to the strength of the movie.

That's nice but not Oscar-worthy.

I'm sorry but her performance was not anything of note. I barely even remember it. I actually thought Letitia Wright gave a nuanced performance.

Letitia was great in that movie.

“Wakanda Forever” should’ve cut down/out most of the storylines outside of the royal family, so she could’ve shined more. It didn’t need to be 30 minutes more than the first.
