I mean pretty standard for Consumer Electronics. Why waste years of product development and fighting for acceptance when you can buy a niche market leader and get automatic acceptance, product placements and future product development already in progress. Corsair did this successfully with Elgato.

RED was a big disruptor in the digital video scene, and with Arri (since 2010 with the release of Alexa) in the absolute forefront. Nikon buying them out is taking out a huge competitor.
