The 2024 Met Gala dress code is “The Garden of Time”. As always, the theme is related to this year’s exhibition concept "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”.

I expect a lot of florals and a few people really rolling with something crazy for the "time" part.

this theme could be very fun, but i imagine a lot of people will do v boring, basic florals.

since it's about the fragility and fleetingness of material objects, it could be fun to do a paper dress. these actually used to be a thing, and the trend didn't just forever, but it could be a fantastic thing to pick up, since those weren't meant to be worn very long either.

or something really layered out of super thin tissue paper or threadbare, crumbling fabrics, which tears away bit by bit and reveals the structur underneath or sth.

idk i'm not a designer lol, someone can surely make sth interesting up.

my long held opinion: the met gala is not a costume party!

but also if you do try to dress on theme, like, then its on

there's an event specific dress code every year lol that's what this entire post is about

it isn't a dress code. all those pre-approved outfits that don't ""fit""" the theme will still be allowed in the met. when they say the theme is about a specific designer, most people won't wear the designer but the money will go to the costume institute putting on the show.

you can argue its a suggestion for sure and in regards to celebrity and branding, yeah go hard or go home.
