aside from that, planning to finally check out the iron claw this weekend. i’ve been wanting to see it for a while, so i’m really looking forward to it (while also afraid of how devastating it will be).

Seeing Perfect Days tonight, double feature of Madame Web and One Love on Saturday, and The Taste of Things on Monday (before I go to a big sumptuous dinner, fittingly). I wanna get to the Oscar shorts soon; I haaaaaaate that some are available online and some aren't. Just make them all available for streaming in a nice package!!!! I'll pay! Don't make me go to the theater three separates times ffs
oh, wait, twice: looks like the docs are all streaming somewhere. well OK

lmao I'm sorry, is the premise of No Way Up that the plane WOULDN'T crumple like a tin can?
I tried to watch Bottoms but strongly disliked the characters and their motivations so stopped.
I might take myself to see One Love because I need a bit of cheering up.

I was just too grossed out by the 'lying to get in crush's pants' angle, I'm sure the lesson is ~that's not good but it's such a tired cliche I didn't want it

Robot Dreams
Golda
To Catch a Tiger
The Eternal Memory
American Symphony
+ all the shorts, which are conveniently coming out this weekend in theaters. I will probably watch the documentary ones at home, as I think they are all available online, but I will have to go see the live action + animated nominees at the theater.
This week's watches include Io Capitano, The Teacher's Lounge, Society of the Snow, and Casablanca. all of which fall on the spectrum of good to great.
We saw director Q&As with all three of the foreign films I just mentioned, and those definitely impacted how I see the films a little bit.
For instance, the director of Io Capitano talked about some on-set dangers to his actors during stunts that made me question his judgment tremendously - it's a good film, but hire better stunt coordinators.
The director of Society of the Snow seemed extremely confident in his film to a sort of annoying degree, and talked about the ( ... )

I don't know why I find that so funny to hear about Bayona. Was this before or after the Goya Awards? Maybe he was still on a high from that.
To Kill a Tiger can really grind you down and Eternal Memory is hard if you've ever had a loved one with Alzheimer's so definitely good call on making those home watches.
If you need help with Robot Dreams, I'm here for you ha

And yeah, the director of Io Capitano talked about [Spoiler (click to open)]how a stunt guy fell off one of the trucks driving through the desert, how the lead actor fell on his face onto the table while he was being suspended upside down in the prison (he wasn't seriously injured, but still!!!), and that some of the crowd scenes on the boat felt out of his control at times... like, sir!! It is your set!!! The fuck? [Spoiler (click to open)] And if that's what he was willing to share in a public Q&A, I have concerns.
Thank you so much re: Robot Dreams - I will absolutely get back to you if I am in need!

I only have Nǎi Nai and Wài Pó and Island in Between for the Doc shorts.
I've only seen one of the animated shorts though.

On a sentimental level, Nǎi Nai and Wài Pó is probably my favorite nominee of not just the shorts but even above features, ha. I'm looking forward to watching the director's feature film that just got acquired by Focus out of Sundance.
