I think the best outcome of this and Palworld's success is that maybe, just maybe, this will make Nintendo come to the realization that churning out the same crap every couple of years when the fanbase has been screaming for something new for decades was a mistake. I don't think they'll give Jigglypuff a Desert Eagle (although she should have one) but damn it'd be cool to see Megas and Z moves and all the other one off mechanics back, beyond just polishing the games and iterating on stuff like mechanics and designs.

just to clarify, pokemon is a nintendo exclusive, but gamefreak is the actual developer. nintendo can and should lend more quality control, but they're not ones making it and have their internal stuff to work on (mario, zelda, splatoon, animal crossing, pikmin)

this will generate a lot of buzz as the “pokemon killer” then it fade into obscurity in the next few months like all the other pokemon knockoffs. Hope this forces the pokemon company to actually put effort into making games instead of releasing ugly, glitchy, unplayable, unfinished slop

Regardless of whether the game is more similar to Ark, people are buying it because it's similar to Pokemon. People are buying it because they finally have a chance to play a more adult-orientated, "decent-looking" Pokemon game that they've been begging for from GameFreak. It's their "Take that!" to them. But I don't think this will push GameFreak in the direction people want; I think it'll have them double down on their current path.

I'm not surprised, the second people can put their hand on something that isn't mature enough to their liking, they put either sex or violence in it. (and that even if one could argue that Pokemon games are violents)

The only thing I don't understand is why they would wait after the release of the game to take action when they could easily have done this before. I have no idea if they have a lot of legal leg to this but there's a real design inspiration at the very least.
